Sean and I first talked about a piece in the winter of 2016, but it wasn't until a year later that it came together. We agreed on a piece for vibraphone and voice scored in traditional notation that included splotches of paint; blue paint for the left hand, red paint for the right hand. I also used the paint to determine things like dynamics, vibraphone motor speed, etc.

I premiered the piece in the Spring of 2018 and made a studio recording soon after. Sean's latest LP "Puck" features this piece (and his other commissioned works) "spliced across both sides, hammered and bent to fit in place."

I am forever grateful to Sean for "Violet Fat", and for taking a chance on a random admirer from Kansas.
